It’s about 20 months ago that ‘Feeling Sad’ was first published in Belgium and the Netherlands (Boos) and last week it hit the shelves in the U.S.A. I think it is time for an update.
In 20 months time Feeling Sad won the International Illustrators Award of the City Hasselt and the Plantin Moretus Award for best Belgian design. It also got nominated for the Boekenpauw (Best Belgian Picturebook) and for the Kids and Youth Jury Flanders. The rights were sold to New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South-Korea and finally the U.S.A.
The Dutch version is as good as sold out, so if you haven’t got one yet, hurry up!
The American version is out since last week and already had some nice reviews from Kirkus and from several websites. Today someone sent me a link to the following blog: A chair, a fireplace and a tea cosy.
What makes the American version (Enchanted Lion Books) extra special for me is that I had the chance to translate the book myself!
Enchanted Lion Books is also the publisher that will publish my next book ‘Pigeon and Pigeonette’ (written by Dirk Derom). It is due in September, but don’t worry, I will mention it again!
20 maand geleden werd Boos voor het eerst gepubliceerd in België en Nederland. Vorige week bereikte het de Amerikaanse boekenwinkels. Tijd voor een update.
Op 2 jaar tijd won Boos de Prijs van de stad Hasselt en de Plantin Moretus Prijs voor beste design. Het werd ook genomineerd voor de Boekenpauw (Beste Belgische kinderboek) en voor de KJV (Kinder- en Jeugdjury Vlaanderen). De rechten zijn intussen verkocht aan Nieuw-Zeeland, Australië, Japan, Zuid-Korea en sinds kort dus ook aan Amerika.
De Nederlandse versie is stilaan uitgeput. Wie er nog eentje wil moet zich reppen!
De Amerikaanse versie is nog maar een weekje jong, maar heeft al enkele leuke reviews op zak. Eentje van Kirkus, maar ook verschillende websites spreken zich lovend over het boek uit. Vandaag kreeg ik nog een link doorgestuurd naar deze site: A chair, a fireplace and a tea cosy.
Wat de Amerikaanse versie (Enchanted Lion Books) extra leuk maakt voor mij is dat ik zelf voor de vertaling heb ingestaan!
Enchanted Lion Books is tevens de uitgever die mijn volgende boekje, ‘Pigeon and Pigeonette’ (geschreven door Dirk Derom) zal uitgeven. Het verschijnt in September, maar u kan op uw twee oren slapen, ik heb het er nog wel eens over!
